Summary
Abstract: The tide is an alternate and regular rise and fall of sea level in oceans and other large bodies of water. The Massachusetts coastline has a diurnal tide with two high and low tides each day. NOAA (the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) has placed tide gauge stations in different locations along the coast to measure the rise and fall of the water. These data show the location of these tide gauge stations and were taken from the NOAA Tides and Currents web site at http://www.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/tides06/tab2ec1b.html on Sept. 22, 2006 by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management.

Purpose: The purpose is to show the locations of tide stations on the coast of Massachusetts. The attribute data also gives the mean and spring tidal ranges and the mean tidal level at each station. The data were generated from NOAA Tides and Currents web site at http://www.tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/index.shtml on Sept. 22, 2006 by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management.
