Summary

Abstract: Vegetation was originally to be derived from the UNESCO vegetation
maps for the Mediterranean and the area south of the Sahara as well as
the NOAA chlorophyl index imagery. However, careful inspection of the
data indicated that the classifications, based largely on potential
vegetation conditions, did not provide an adequate estimate of actual
