Vegetation distribution (distribution mapping and microscopic examination) at Cape Bird
Entry ID:
K053_1982_1983_NZ_2
Summary
Abstract:
Extensive vegetation mapping and microscopic examination of sample material was completed at Cape Bird in detail enough so that maps were produced marking the location of all major algal, moss and a single lichen stand. Material was collected with sterile techniques from all the available non-marine habitats which supported an algal flora. All the material was examined microscopically while in the field up to x100. 368 field observations were made on the quality, quantity and location of vegetation from as wide an area as was possible, traversed on foot. General photographs of site topography, representative habitats and vegetation within the site were taken.

Quality
The data is very well described and documented in the publications.
Some cultures may still exist and are held by Landcare Research, New Zealand. The quality of these cultures is unknown. Field notebooks, diaries, etc are retained by the investigator.
Access Constraints
If the cultures are wanted to be transeferred from Landcare Research, the receiving lab needs to have the necessary containment certification (i.e. PC2 containment) and transfers have to be done according to MAF protocol. Otherwise the work needs to be done in the Landcare Research Molecular lab.
