Geocoded Landsat TM Scenes of Germany from the Intelligent Satellite Data Information System (ISIS)Entry ID: DFD-LANDSAT_TM_GEO
Abstract: This data set comprises products of Geocoded LANDSAT TM data covering
the area of Germany; on-line access to low resolution browse images
is offered by means of the Intelligent Satellite Data Information System ISIS,
a service of the DFD within DLR at Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany; original
products can be ordered at DFD.
General information about Landsat-TM:
TM is scanning the Earth`s surface from ... an near polar, sun synchronous
orbit at an altitude of 705 km, the inclination is 98.2 deg. The time
for one revolution is 99 min at a speed of 7.5 km/sec. Starting at
longitude 64.9 W TM scans the Earth by 233 overlapping pathes of each
185 km width. In order to have a reference system these pathes will be
cut into each 248 segments, denoted as rows numbered from north to
south. The resulting scenes (images), recorded in 25.714 sec, hence
are of size 183 km (W-E) * 172.8 km (N-S). Neighbouring pathes show an
overlap along-track of 6 km (200 pixel) and a latitude-dependent
overlap across-track of 7.3 % at the equator. The path pattern is such
that consequent paths have a distance of 2752 km at the equator, the
same subsatellite track will be recorded every 16 days.
The Visible and Near Infrared detectors are positioned in the primary
focal plane of the optical system :
band 1 0.45 - 0.52 microns VIS blue
band 2 0.52 - 0.60 microns VIS green
band 3 0.63 - 0.69 microns VIS red
band 4 0.76 - 0.90 microns NIR
and the Short Wave Infrared and Thermal Infrared detectors in a cooled
focal plane :
band 5 1.55 - 1.75 microns SWIR
band 6 10.40 -12.50 microns TIR
band 7 2.08 - 2.35 microns SWIR
The channels 1,2,3,4,5 and 7 consist of 16 silicon detectors (30 m
res.), the TIR channel 6 due to the necessity of a longer dwelling
time has 4 HgCdTe detectors (120 m resolution).
Description of Geocoded Landsat TM data set:
The set provides a complete coverage of Germany. The cartographic reference
system is UTM, (Hayford ellipsoid, ED50). Resampling is performed through
Cubic Convolution with resulting pixel size of 25m x 25 m.
A scene consists of 5760 lines, where each line has 6100 image pixels.
Total image size of one scene is 172km * 185km.
Total amount of data of one scene is 500 - 570 MByte.
Every scene consists of 7 spectral bands ( 3 visible; 3 near and shortwave
infrared; 1 thermal infrared). Up to now there are 31 scenes in total.
The data are available as:
- digital browse quicklooks (each about 100 kByte), online.
- original digital products, on magnetic tape or Exabyte.
Access to the data:
On-line access to data and information is provided by the Intelligent Satellite
Data Information System ISIS, developed by DLR as a client / server
configuration. It is representing the interface of DLR-DFD to users, providing
an easy access to catalogue-, inventory-, browse- and general textual
