Abstract:
These GIS data show the 'Bay Closure Lines' that constitute a part of the legal boundary between Commonwealth and Federal waters. These lines extend seaward of the typical three nautical mile boundary and were set by a Special Master appointed by the Supreme Court of the United States as part of UNITED STATES v. MAINE, 475 U.S. 89 (1986). These GIS lines are created from the bay closure line coordinates set forth by the Special Master.
Purpose: These data were developed to show the 'Bay Closure Lines' that constitute a part of the legal boundary between Commonwealth and Federal waters. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: For purposes of said Decree of October 6, 1975, the coastline of Massachusetts includes the following straight lines: (a) A line from a point on Gay Head on Martha's Vineyard (approximately 41ø 21'10"N, 70ø 50'07"W) to the ...
