John van den Hoff supplied to the Australian Antarctic Data Centre as Oziexplorer files GPS data collected by Tim Gill using a handheld GPS. The data included points with longitude and latitude for the camera locations on Nelly Island and tracks representing the approximate boundaries of the southern giant petrel colonies.
GIS data was created from the GPS data. Polygons representing the southern giant petrel colonies were smoothed using the Smooth Polygon tool in ArcGIS 10 with the UTM zone 49 projection, the Paek algorithm and a tolerance of 30 metres.
