National protected areas previous to year 2000, point dataset from the World Database of Protected Areas (WDPA-2003)

Summary
Abstract:
National Protected Areas established by the year 2000. The coverage has been generated from data extracted from the World Database of Protected Areas as compiled on the 12th of November 2003. Protected areas (PA's) have been selected from establishment dates of less than 31/12/2000, as well as sites with no recorded establishment date. PA's designated after 2000 were excluded. Nationally protected areas comprise two datasets: 1) NAT_POL_2000: a polygon dataset where the spatial extent or area of the PA is defined and 2) NAT_PNT_2000: a point dataset for protected areas that have no known spatial extent.
Purpose: To provide a snapshot of the Nationally designated protected areas as represented up to the 31 December 2000.
